Best Cities for St. Patrick’s Day Festivities Includes Nevada Surprise

With the yearly celebrations scheduled for next Tuesday, March 17, St. Patrick's Day is quickly approaching. It may surprise you to learn which cities are the finest places to celebrate the occasion, which honors the passing of St. Patrick, Ireland's most revered patron saint.

According to the personal finance website WalletHub, Americans will spend $7 billion on St. Patrick's Day in 2026. Numerous cities have commemorated customs, such as New York City's iconic St. Patrick's Day Parade and Chicago's greening of the Chicago River. However, WalletHub claims that this Nevada city is a better location to celebrate everything Irish.

Reno is ranked highly

On WalletHub's list of the Best Cities for St. Patrick's Day Celebrations, Reno—known as "The Biggest Little City in the World"—was a highly regarded surprise. On the March 17 holiday list, the Nevada city with several casinos came in at number two.

Reno received great grades for its St. Patrick's Day customs, celebration expenses, and accessibility and safety. The normally clear and temperate weather in the city didn't harm either. Reno was only surpassed by Boston as the top St. Patty's destinations.

"Reno comes to life with vibrant traditions and events for everyone to enjoy. The Reno Leprechaun Crawl, a fun downtown bar crawl featuring themed events and drink deals, and the Annual Leprechaun Race 5K, a family-friendly race where runners dress in their best St. Paddy’s garb, are some of its highlights,” the WalletHub study explained.

Reno has the 21st-highest number of Irish bars per person in the United States. Additionally, some of the cheapest pints in the nation are served at those drinking establishments. Ole Bridge, Shenanigan's, and Ceol Irish Pub are a few well-known Irish bars.

Irish are one of the largest ancestry groups in the nation, with over 31 million Americans claiming Irish ancestry. When colonies in North America first commemorated the patron saint's passing many centuries ago, St. Patrick's Day was born, not in Ireland.

While major St. Patrick’s Day celebrations began in North America, the holiday has since grown in popularity in Ireland. In Ireland, banks, schools, and many other businesses are closed on St. Patrick's Day, which is now a national holiday. Over 500,000 people routinely attend Dublin's St. Patrick's Day Parade.
